The Good: The year started off with a bang! Not only did all sales agents get together at HQ in Kawangware for a big celebration of last year’s achievements, but we had trainings all over Nairobi, Limuru and Kikuyu for new sales agents. The new trainees are eager to sink their teeth into the opportunity to learn, work and sell! It’s because of this start-of-year eagerness that across all branches we outdid our sales goal by 19%. Even the new agents got straight into selling, with successful marketing events held in conjunction with our main cookstove partner, Burn Manufacturing. Because their factory and offices are based locally in Nairobi, we are able to hold regular street events with them, giving our sales agents a chance to flex their marketing muscles and work as a team to attract huge crowds to the cookstove stand – and land some sales! Music blasted from the sound system, goodies were distributed and it created the sort of celebratory atmosphere that has characterized this month.
The Challenges: The average individual income across all agents is slightly lower than we hoped for this month. Despite this, there were agents across most branches that earned more than 10 times the projected average, and due to their outstanding and consistent performance they have now been recognized as senior sales agents. They received bright backpacks and t-shirts and special training to promote new products and inspire and encourage their peers. Our number of branches has seen a momentary dip, because our most recent branch to open, in Kikuyu, had a brief hiatus whist staffing issues were sorted, but is now back in action and establishing itself in the town. For next month we are excited to see two new branch managers starting out, and seeing the many new trainees from this month increase their personal income.
